The 2010 APSIPA Annual Summit and Conference will include Special Sessions. Their objective is to
complement the regular program with new or emerging topics of particular interest to the signal and
information processing community that may also cut across and beyond disciplines traditionally presented
in the signal and information processing areas. Special Sessions in line with the summit and conference
interests relating to signals and information including processing, analysis, recognition, communications,
networking, computing, visualization, system design, security, implementation, and technology with
applications to scientific, engineering, biomedical, and social areas, are welcome. The first paper in a
Special Session preferably should serve as an introduction to the concerned topic, aimed at outsiders. This
overview paper may be presented by the organizers, or by an invited speaker.
Prospective organizers of Special Sessions should submit proposals containing:
• Title of the session and a summary describing the theme of the session.
• Rationale of the need for the Special Session at the APSIPA annual summit and conference. The
rationale should stress the novelty of the topic and its multidisciplinary flavor (if any)
• Short biography of the organizers of the Special Session.
• List of five expected submissions (including titles, authors, contact information of the
corresponding author, and a short abstract of each intended contribution). The organizers should
not contribute with more than one paper to the Special Session.
• Preliminary version of the overview paper is desirable. If submitted, it enhances the chances of
proposal acceptance.
Submission of Proposals for Special Session:
Proposals are due on or before May 21, 2010 and should be sent via e-mail (in either PDF or plain text
form) to the Special Sessions Chairs, Alexander Loui (alexander.loui@kodak.com) and Susanne Boll
(susanne.boll@informatik.uni-oldenburg.de). Proposals will be evaluated based on the timeliness of the
topic, the qualifications of the organizers and the authors of the papers proposed in the sessions, the
balance of the topics across the technical areas, and the quality of the overview paper.
Notification of acceptance of Special Session proposals is scheduled on June 10, 2010.
Papers for Special Sessions:
Papers (4 to 10 pages in length) should conform to the formatting and electronic submission guideline defined by
the APSIPA summit and conference. The papers of the Special Sessions will undergo a similar peer
review process as the regular papers. It is the responsibility of the organizers to ensure that their Special
Session meets the APSIPA annual summit and conference quality standards. The deadline for Special Session paper
submission has been extended to July 17, 2010.
